BioEditClone Marines (or Galactic Marines, Snowtroopers, Cold Assault Troopers, or Flamethrower Troopers) are specially-trained Clone Troopers who wear unique thermal-coated armor meant for extremely cold or hot temperatures on certain planets or worlds.
The Clone Marines originally wore Phase 1 armor during the middle of the Clone Wars, while the 21st Nova Corps. (led by Jedi General Ki-Adi-Mundi) were the ones to actually invent the special armor (aside from Spec Ops. helmets).
Several other units in the Grand Army of the Republic also wore Clone Marine armor on special missions, (such as the 104th on Khorm and 501st on Orto Plutonia) yet the 21st Nova Corps. were the main battalion or unit to specifically wear the armor due to them being the special forces for the Grand Army of the Republic.
Towards the end of the Clone Wars, they began wearing Phase 2 armor which marked the transition to becoming Imperial Marines (Imperial Snowtroopers) for the Galactic Empire; to whom they wore Phase 3 armor which was recycled from Phase 1 and Phase 2 armor.
AppearanceEditThe Clone Marines wear thick thermal-coated armor with a unqiue thermal-coated helmet (which often has goggles) with datapacks containing supplies, or a com-link, and a kama which sometimes contains blaster pistol holsters.
Commander Wolffe and Captain Rex are one of the only Clone Officers to wear Clone Marine armor. (Aside from having blaster pistol holsters on their kama.)
Most fans often confuse the Galactic Marines for being part of there own army known as the 4th Sector Army; yet the army itself doesn't consist of any Clone Troopers, nor is it a unit, but an army affiliated with the Grand Army of the Republic. (Such as the Gungan Army or Mon Calamarian Army).
The Phase 2 21st Nova Corps. Galactic Marines are referred to as "Clone Commanders" in the Star Wars Battlefront 2 video game.
They; like the 21st Nova Corps.; are loosely based from the US Marines.
