BioEditClone Commandos, (or Republic Commandos), were highly trained specialized Clone Troopers who served the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars Era.
There were only 3 official squads of Commandos, due to being highly trained, as well as being expensive to train and clone, and would practically eliminate Standard Clone Troopers all together. (Yet there was an additional squad towards the end of the Clone Wars Era.)
They practically did whatever no average Jedi or Clone Trooper could do, and were assigned to special missions that were almost impossible to complete.
They were first deployed on Geonoisis to destroy the original Droid Factory first seen in Episode 2: Attack of the Clones, which, of course, was discovered by Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padme Amidala.
They eventually developed distinguished markings, nicknames, gear, weapons, and their actual squad names after hearing about Jedi General Anakin Skywalker's strategy for having distinguished Clone Troopers.
They were only assigned to special missions, while the 501st Torrent Co., 212th Attack Battalion, and other units of Clone Troopers battled in large battles and were assigned to smaller missions. (Yet the 501st and 212th did what Delta and Theta squads couldn't do; hence the Citadel mission.)
Several were killed in combat, while others were executed; like several other Clone Troopers; after discovering the truth behind Order 66.

Clone Commandos, or Republic Commandos, resemble the British SAS, US Navy Seals, and Task Force teams of special forces soldiers.
They also resemble Spartan Soldiers from the Halo franchise.
The Commandos originally were meant to be all non-canon, yet the novels and the Republic Commando video game all very much do explain the back-story of the Clone Wars Era. (Aside from the feature-length or current Clone Wars series.)
Each and every high ranking Clone Officer (as well as those with a high position) out-rank each and every Commando.
Almost every Commando has never been seen with their helmet removed.
